Senior Vice President of News Operations
Fox Television Stations, Inc., Fox News Channel
In October of 2005, Sharri Berg was promoted to the newly created position of Senior Vice President of News Operations for the Fox Television Stations Group, which is comprised of 28 Owned and Operated stations in the U.S. She continues as head of News Operations for Fox News Channel both positions based at News Corporation headquarters in New York.
Sharri originally joined the Fox News Channel in April 1996 as the Manager of Satellite Operations where she created the Satellite Operations department during the launch of FNC. In her managerial role, Sharri developed the Satellite Desk, SNG and Affiliates Live Operations.
After nearly 2 years, Sharri was promoted to the Director of Field Operations in February 1998 where she managed national ENG Crews, Satellite Desk, SNG and Affiliates Live Operations.A year later in October of 1999, Sharri was moved up to Director of Newsgathering and Operations. While at this position, she played as an integral part in the creation of the Network News Service (NNS) and its operational launch. She interacted on a tactical level with all FNC managers relating to newsroom, operations issues, budgets, and planning for special events and general news coverage. Further, she managed the Assignment Desk and newsroom scheduling and administration. She held this rank until October 2000 when she moved up to Vice President of News Operations. Currently, as SVP, Sharri is responsible for ensuring operational and production synergy between the Fox Television Stations and Fox News Channel. Her most recent project includes the formation of LNS (Local News Service) which are local news video sharing arrangements between local stations across the country. LNS is designed to enable members to share redundant newsgathering resources and expenditures while giving the stations the ability to focus on unilateral, branded content.
Previously held positions within News Corporation were Coordinating Producer for "A Current Affair" from June 1994 to April 1996 and Associate Producer for "The Reporters" from November 1988 to March 1990. Ms. Berg also held positions at Worldwide Television News (WTN) as Director of Special Events & Facilities from September 1992 to June 1994 and Manager of Broadcast Services from April 1990 to September 1992.
Sharri graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. in 1987 with a B.A. in Communications. She was born in Queens and was raised in Rockland County, New York. She lives in New York City and East Hampton with her husband, Barry Levine, and their 4-year old daughter August.
The greatest opportunity in my career was being hired by Roger Ailes for the launch of Fox News Channel. When it was announced in early 1996 that Fox would be starting an all news channel in midtown Manhattan only 9 months later, timing and opportunity helped me reach a pivotal point in my career. Since I was already working for another division of Fox at the time, I was lucky enough to get an interview with Mr. Ailes. He was looking for people with specialized skills and equally important -- a drive to win and a fear of losing. I jumped at the chance to work for Mr. Ailes and to have a role as a launch team member. I was primed and excited for the challenge of forming the Satellite Operations department from the beginning, but did not know the success I would have in the years to come in expanded, new roles and responsibilities. As the network grew, I would be given the opportunity to build remote operations, set up bureau infrastructure, manage field operations, newsroom operations, launch news services and lead and manage dedicated professionals everyday. It has been an incredible ride and I look forward to continuing to grow in our evolving industry in the years to come.
